Position:Provides a range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals. Demonstrates the ability to make disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims. Applies statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments. Promotes ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business.Position RequirementsEducation and Training: Four year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or related field. Associate degree and/or equivalent experience as determined by department management would also be considered.Experience: Typically up to 4 years experience preferred, combined with consistently strong performance or equivalent experience as determined by department management.Knowledge:Business/Functional Expertise: Understands the key business drivers; uses this knowledge in own work. Expands fundamental knowledge in own function and broadens skills. Project Management: Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team. Works with others to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills within own function. May be accountable for subsets for project deliverables. Has no formal role in managing projects. Financial Management: Aware of costs and assists in controlling costs related to own work. Other: Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices. Working knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment.Knowledge of statistical methods, six sigma and/or BPI practices.Skills/Abilities:Problem Solving: Solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures. Customer Focus: Responds to non-standard requests from customers; investigates with assistance from others as needed. Decision Making: Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge. Other: Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas. Ability to travel. Ability to apply statistical methods in decision making. Ability to function as an individual contributor with moderate supervision. Ability to serve as a mentor to internal resources in narrow functional areas as requested. Ability to provide support and guidance to peers and manager in key projects and opportunities with minimal assistance. Ability to provide support and guidance to external customers in key projects and opportunities with moderate assistance. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to support and participate on team efforts. Ability to assist internal and external customers. Demonstrates growth in the application of statistics and data analysis. Ability to lead small projects and direct work. R&D Specific Ability to publish 1 paper per year.
