Job Profile Summary Working in a technical role, the Desktop Support Technician’s primary responsibility is assisting in the implementation and maintenance (both proactive and reactive) of desktop computing environment and peripherals. The Desktop technician will maintain an enterprise-level desktop computing infrastructure, as well as the diverse and complex business applications. The technician ensures that solutions meet business objectives while maintaining a high level of user trust and confidence. Furthermore, this is professional work in the maintenance, installation, and repair of computers, software, and mobile technology. Work is performed independently, under the general supervision of the Desktop Support Team Lead, who reviews, directs, and evaluates the assigned projects. Local and distant travel as required. Responsibilities Provide in-depth enterprise desktop support. Resolve problems and answer questions related to the computing environment. Contact vendor support when necessary to resolve issues. Serve as a technical liaison to the user community. Document incidents and problems and escalate issues to the appropriate engineering team when required Install and update software and Operating Systems. Install and troubleshoots computer equipment and mobile devices at user locations as required. Evaluate and recommend available training to satisfy user needs. Prepare and assist in the preparation of computer-generated reports. Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. Train users in hardware and software as needed. Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance contracts, and equipment warranties. Provide off-hours coverage as scheduled by the Team Lead or Managers. Qualifications: In-depth understanding of troubleshooting techniques and experience with remote troubleshooting tools Tracks and monitors the progress of issues through standard best practices and procedures to identify interventions and resolutions Ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence and ability to manage client expectations Microsoft In-Tune and Azure knowledge preferred, but not required Knowledge of current releases of Windows 10 and Microsoft 365 Knowledge of standard principles and practices of IT Desktop Support. Knowledge of capabilities, requirements, uses, and applications of computers, peripherals and mobile devices. Knowledge of Network equipment, routers, hubs, switches, Ethernet cables, and general networking. Ability to travel to offices throughout Allegheny county, as needed, to maintain, install, and repair computer & mobile device equipment. Ability to make both written and oral reports. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Education/Experience Required Associate degree or equivalent, plus 1-3 years previous experience working with various computer hardware and software programs. -OR- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
