Job Description:
Description An Intermodal Specialist coordinates freight
transportation using multiple modes (rail, truck, ocean), focusing
on optimizing supply chain efficiency, drayage management, and cost
control. Key responsibilities include tracking shipments,
negotiating with carriers, ensuring compliance, and managing
customer service to reduce detention/demurrage fees. Key
Responsibilities Logistics Coordination: Manage the end-to-end
movement of intermodal containers, coordinating between rail ramps
and truck drivers for pick-ups/deliveries. Carrier Management:
Build relationships with drayage partners, negotiating rates and
securing capacity. Data Entry & Tracking: Utilize Transportation
Management Systems (TMS) to enter loads, update ETAs, and track
shipment milestones. Problem Resolution: Actively track shipments
to prevent or mitigate detention, per diem, and demurrage charges.
Customer Service: Act as the primary contact, providing proactive
updates and resolving service exceptions for clients. Compliance:
Ensure all documentation adheres to intermodal transportation
regulations and company standards. Qualifications Skills and
Qualifications Experience: Previous logistics or brokerage
experience, specifically with rail or intermodal operations.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems
(TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills for negotiating with carriers and
communicating with stakeholders. Detail-Oriented: Exceptional
organizational skills to manage complex shipping logistics and
billing. Typical Qualifications Education: High school diploma or
equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in logistics or supply
chain management is often preferred. Experience Level: Positions
range from junior (1–3 years) to senior roles (7 years). Benefits
