This posting -is for -3 positions - Also- The - -locations of these
roles are -open, but the majority of work will - -focus on: 1 -role
in - -Western / Northern Ohio, -and 2 open positions in -Eastern
Pennsylvania. - - Reporting locations are open to any FirstEnergy
Location in Ohio and Eastern PA, areas, -subject to the hiring
managers approval. This position is responsible for the smart meter
field area network technical testing in support of smart meter
technology used by FirstEnergy. - Additional duties will include
Field Technical Support of various electrical testing of equipment
across FE Territory including but are not limited to Infrared
Thermal, Corona, RF and SF6 imaging of various equipment in
substations and circuits. This is an entry level position with
multiple career paths that could lead into Engineering and
Leadership positions for employees that demonstrate high
performance and strong work ethic. - Advance level Specialists are
also responsible for ensuring high function revenue meters are
performing properly by conducting or assisting with testing
processes of these meters and associated equipment. - They conduct
additional testing for substation construction and maintenance
engineering as well as distribution support and transmission
engineering. A successful candidate would be based in and around
Ohio, and Eastern PA areas- -However, this position requires travel
within the FE service territory which includes overnight trips. - A
good portion of the work will be primarily outside on electric line
rights-of-ways and in electrical substations with exposure to
moisture, heat, cold, noise and uneven walking services. -
Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects
of safety.
- Providing reliable day-to-day support to supervision and other
employees on assigned activities, taking -steps to expedite task
completion when necessary and/or practical.
- Professionally communicating with all project team members both
internal and external. Successfully -interacting with a variety of
levels of leadership.
- Identifying issues and working independently, where possible,
to resolve issues in a timely manner with -minimal assistance.
- Managing time and priorities, and updating management on work
in progress and any other applicable -status updates.
- Identify the materials, equipment, and special tools required
to complete approved technical support activities.
- Effectively building relationships across operations.
- Perform repair and tracking activities while solidifying
skills, knowledge and maturity in analyzing data and findings.
- Provide assistance during emergencies and storm-related
activities and traveling to various off-site -locations as well as
FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer
sites, when requested.
- Participating in meetings and workshops to provide subject
matter expertise on Smart Meter field related -issues.
- Providing intercommunication between Smart Meter Operation
Center (SMOC), Meter Engineering,
- Smart Meter Test Lab and Field Deployment.
- Providing field support to Operating Companies throughout the
Pennsylvania Service Territory. Qualifications for the Assoc
Technical Specialist
- A 2-year degree in a technical discipline plus 1-3 years of
directly relevant operating experience is preferred, or 4-year
degree in a technical discipline plus 0-1 years of directly
relevant operating experience is preferred. In lieu of degree 6+
years of Relevant experience will be considered.
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, system
operations, FE storm process, work management, electrical
equipment, and field work.
- The candidate must have demonstrated experience in
accomplishing responsibilities in a timely manner through
maximizing organizational resources and employing logical
approaches.
- The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the
ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with
multiple departments in multiple locations.
- The candidate must have effective written and oral
communication skills and conduct oneself in a professional
manner.
- Proficient PC skills (Word, Excel) are required with core
understanding of applicable technical products and/or
services.
- Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn,
produce results, and strengthen existing and new
relationships.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
- Effective team player.
- Willingness to work extra and/or irregular work hours.
- Willingness to travel overnight as necessary.
- Strong computer skills and/or experience with the current
OMS/PORD platform.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Forward thinking mindset to support continuous improvement
opportunities.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Technical
Specialist would include all above, plus:
- A 2-year degree in a technical discipline plus 6+ years of
directly relevant operating experience is preferred, or 4-year
degree in a technical discipline plus 3+ years of directly relevant
operating experience is preferred. In lieu of degree 9+ yrs of
Relevant experience will be considered.
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, system
operations, FE storm process, work management, electrical
equipment, and field work.
- A strong understanding of FE safe work practices. Must have
access to a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and
locations as required, possessing a valid driver's license. NOTE: -
