Description: Responsible to Unit Director for overall nursing
practice. Includes the responsibility for assessment of
childbearing women (adolescence to middle adulthood), neonates, and
family needs, the development of a plan of care to meet those
needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of
nursing care based on outcomes for the population served.
Responsibilities: Assists women and infants to attain and maintain
optimum health by assessing patient and family's developmental
level, health status, and health history including sexual and
reproductive history and identified learning needs, performing
initial assessment and stabilization of the neonate, developing a
plan of care based on identified needs, and teaching self-care
and/or the care of the newborn to patients and families. Assists
women and families to achieve and maintain a balance between
personal growth needs and optimum family functioning by considering
data related to role relationships and interaction patterns of
families and promoting understanding of the influence of family
relationships on health status. Identifies and intervenes with
vulnerable patients and families-at-risk to prevent potential
developmental and health problems, provides support and
collaborates with other health care disciplines in the treatment
and referrals of families at risk, and facilitates interaction
between family members to promote bonding process. Promotes an
environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth, and
development, wellness, and promotes recovery from illness. Assists
patients and families to understand and cope with women's health
issues and childbirth. Accepts responsibility and accountability
for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in the care of
women and infants by maintaining an awareness of professional
issues and updating knowledge and clinical skills on an ongoing
basis. Requirements: Completion of an accredited registered nurse
program required. Effectively functions as a team member and as a
liaison between patient and staff with strong communication skills.
Current Pennsylvania RN licensure. Meets the American Heart
Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support
(BLS) and renews BLS every two years. Holds the Neonatal
Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and renews NRP every two
years. Meets the American Heart Association's standards for
Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews
