Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7:30 AM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years
required License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS
and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: NIHSS certification
must be in hand at the time of submission. Recent experience with
the EPIC charting system is required. Proficiency with G-tubes is
necessary. Strong overall neuro experience is essential.
Description: This unit accommodates 20 beds. Nurse-to-patient
ratios are 1:5-6 for floor patients. Common diagnoses include
neurosciences, deep brain stimulators, strokes, seizures,
surgical/postoperative spines, and neurological disorders. Nurses
are not required to titrate drips; titration is done per
physician's orders in a step-down setting. Charge nurse and house
supervisor are available 24/7. There are nurse aides on this unit,
with ratios of 1:7-10. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and
RN's are not required to have ventilator experience. The unit has
telemetry monitors, but RN's do not need to read strips;
verification from monitor techs is documented in EPIC. Travelers
need to be flexible regarding scheduling. Weekend night positions
include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, and
Monday. Holiday work is expected as part of the rotation. Floating
may occur to other specified units if needed. The dress code allows
for any combination of white and royal blue. There is a
cancellation policy of two shifts per 13-week contract.
