Certifications: BLS Certification required Must-Have: Experience
with blood transfusions, wound vac changes, PCA pumps, ability to
titrate heparin drips per protocol. Description: This position is
for a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical unit focused on
post-surgical care. The unit has a capacity of 27 beds with
nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night.
Common patient diagnoses include orthopedic surgeries,
genitourinary procedures, and general surgeries. RNs will assist in
the care of patients post knee replacement, hip replacement,
bladder biopsies, and various other surgeries. Responsibilities
include administering blood transfusions and managing PCA pumps.
Nurses will also titrate heparin drips according to established
protocols. Charge nurses are present on each shift, with daylight
charge nurses not taking patient assignments. Patient Care
Technicians are available to assist with basic patient care duties
such as bathing, feeding, and vital signs collection. Respiratory
therapy equipment such as CPAPs and BiPAPs will be managed by the
respiratory unit, with nursing providing troubleshooting support as
needed. There are no tele or monitor technicians on this unit;
nursing will not read their own strips as the interpretations will
be handled by another unit. Shift scheduling does not include
self-scheduling; however, preferences and personal needs are
considered. Every other weekend and potential holiday coverage are
required. Staff may float to other units as needed, with rotations
managed by charge nurses. Nursing staff are expected to wear navy
blue or white scrubs, while Patient Care Technicians wear ceil blue
scrubs. Scrubs are not provided by the employer. Orientation
includes a day with an educator and a few days with a preceptor to
familiarize staff with unit protocols and responsibilities. 5
