Description: The unit has a 30-bed capacity with a combination of
private and semi-private rooms. The goal for nurse-to-patient
ratios is 1:4; however, the unit often runs at 1:5 and at times can
be as high as 1:6. Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on
both day and night shifts. Each charge nurse is supported by a
clinical assistant who works closely with patient care. Nurse aides
are available to support the nursing staff, typically at a ratio of
1 aide to 10-12 patients. Weekend shifts are scheduled as part of
the regular rotation. Staff working day shifts are required to work
a minimum of 3 night shifts per month. Nurses must be flexible
regarding holiday shifts, although many holidays are usually
covered by full-time staff. Nurses wear navy blue scrubs and
jackets while on duty. Patients on the unit may present with chest
pain, heart failure, arrhythmias, and post-procedure care. Nurses
are expected to manage drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, and
Nitro. Respiratory equipment is managed by a dedicated respiratory
therapy team, available 24/7. An IV team is also available to
assist with IV placements around the clock. The pharmacy operates
continuously, allowing for immediate medication access. Shifts
typically begin at 7 am or 7 pm, with staff expected to be ready by
6:45. Self-scheduling is permitted as long as unit needs are met.
Nurses will be required to float to other units as necessary,
including Telemetry or Medical-Surgical units. The first day of
orientation will involve a few hours with human resources, followed
by time spent on the unit with a preceptor. Common diagnoses
treated on the unit include patients needing intermediate care and
those on specific therapy regimens. Charting is conducted using the
Allscripts Sunrise system. Requirements Required for Onboarding
