Job Description:
Function: The Department of Urology at the University of
Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center (UPMC) seeks a mid-career urologist specializing in
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) / Female
Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) to advance the
care of women with complex urologic conditions. The appointee will
lead the growth of a comprehensive program in female urology,
integrating clinical care, research, and education, while mentoring
trainees and junior faculty. This position carries a dual
appointment with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and
Reproductive Sciences, with expectations to work collaboratively
with the Division of Urogynecology to develop joint initiatives.
Program Development: - Expand and enhance a comprehensive Female
Urology Program that integrates clinical care, research, and
education. - Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty and trainees with
a focus on advancing female urology. - Serve as an advocate and
institutional resource for women’s urologic health locally,
nationally, and internationally. - Collaborate with the Division of
Urogynecology to establish integrated clinical pathways and
research programs. Clinical Excellence: - Provide expert patient
care as a urologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of
female urologic conditions including urinary incontinence, pelvic
organ prolapse, recurrent infections, interstitial cystitis, sexual
dysfunction, and other complex disorders. - Deliver high-quality,
patient-centered care tailored to the unique needs of women.
Research and Scholarship: - Lead and participate in research
initiatives aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of
female urologic conditions. - Secure extramural funding to support
innovative research programs. - Publish and present findings in
leading scientific journals and at national and international
conferences. - Leverage startup funds provided to develop
educational, research, or clinical projects aligned with program
goals. Education and Mentorship: - Train and mentor residents,
fellows, and junior faculty in female urology and reconstructive
surgery. - Promote educational initiatives that foster diversity
and cultivate future leaders in the field. Professional Development
and Wellbeing of Women Urologists: - Serve as a strong advocate for
the recruitment, advancement, and retention of women in urology. -
Lead initiatives that promote career development, leadership
training, and mentorship for women in academic urology. - Foster an
environment that prioritizes wellness, equity, and work-life
balance for faculty and trainees. Expectations and Scope: This is a
full-time faculty position designed for a mid-career urologist with
expertise in URPS / FPMRS who demonstrates excellence in clinical
care, research, education, and mentorship. The appointee will
receive institutional support, including startup funds, to develop
innovative programs in female urology, with the opportunity to
shape the future of women’s urologic health at the University of
Pittsburgh and UPMC. Reports To: Chair, Department of Urology,
University of Pittsburgh Physicians Qualifications: - MD or DO
degree with board certification or eligibility in Urology -
Mid-career physician with fellowship training and expertise in
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) / Female
Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) - Licensed (or
eligible for licensure) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania -
Eligible for appointment to the University of Pittsburgh School of
Medicine Faculty at the Associate Professor (6 - 9 years of
experience) or Professor level (10 years of experience) -
Demonstrated record of national or international recognition in
clinical care, research, and/or education in female urology - Track
record of extramural research funding is preferred - Advanced
leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to build programs
and support faculty development - Proven ability to collaborate
effectively with administration, medical staff, and hospital
leadership
