Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/03/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a stepdown Med/Surg position caring for trauma and bariatric patients on weekend day shifts, requiring at least 2 years of experience and complex wound care skills. Responsibilities - Work in an acute care hospital on the 7 East Trauma & General Surgery Inpatient Unit (stepdown and floor care) - Patient population includes multi-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, fractures, general surgery, bariatric surgery, and complex wound care cases - Unit is a nationally recognized Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center with 30-33 beds: 12-15 floor, 18 stepdown - Nurse to patient ratios are 1:6 on the floor and 1:3 in stepdown - 12-hour weekend day shifts required: Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday - Must float to similar units as needed - Uses Epic EMR; ability to read telemetry strips is required - Monitor techs available, but RNs must validate readings - Stable/chronic vents may be present on unit; RT available 24/7 - Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams including care management, surgery, rehabilitation, and perioperative staff - Holiday coverage and rotation as assigned by facility schedule - Royal blue scrubs required - Pass/Fail EKG testing may be required for stepdown staff - Floating to similar stepdown or floor units may be required - Unit offers a fast-paced environment with opportunities to practice advanced nursing skills - Charge nurse and house supervisor support available 24/7 - Clinical associates (nurse aides) are typically present when fully staffed Requirements - Active WV or compact RN license - Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience - Current BLS certification required - Proficient in complex wound care, drains, devices, chest tubes, and respiratory support - Experience with trauma, spinal cord injuries, and bariatric surgery patients preferred - Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips - Must provide an unexpired driver’s license - COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved for a medical or religious exemption - Candidates must live at least 50 miles from facility to qualify as a traveler - Former permanent staff and travelers must have a 2-year break before returning Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-626601.
