Director Of Resident Services
Full Time - Johnstown, PA
Amber Springs Assisted Living Facility at LaurelWood Care Center is
a 100-suite Assisted Living Facility offering well-appointed
private and semi-private rooms or suites where our residents have
access to our Senior Wellness Program and 24-hour staffing. To
support this growing community, we are currently seeking an
experienced -Director of Resident Services. This position is
full-time, salaried, and offers all available current benefits.
Consistent with the philosophy of the Amber Springs Assisted Living
Department, the -Director of Resident Services -is expected to
deliver quality care and customer service. The Director of Resident
Services evaluates and disciplines the nursing assistant, and
utilizes the nursing process so that the physical, medical and
emotional needs of the resident/patient are met.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day responsibilities of the -Director of Resident Services
-include:
- Supervises the provision of all resident care and support
services
- Directs and assigns the activities of all licensed practical
nurses, medication techs and nurse aides to their caseload and
their area of responsibility. Guides, teaches and develops licensed
practical nurses, medication techs and nurse aides to ensure safe,
quality care for geriatric residents and other residents. Monitors
licensed practical nurses, medication techs and nurse aide's
activity and corrects non-compliant acts and reports them to the
Assisted Living Administrator. Follows through on disciplinary
action.
- Safely administers quality nursing care in compliance with
nursing policies and procedures, physician orders, and to provide
external regulatory requirements for established plan of
care.
- Documents all aspects of residents care as accurately,
concisely, and promptly as per state and federal
requirements.
- Contributes to the development of the resident plan of care
based on the identified resident problems/needs. Assists in the
evaluation of the effectiveness of the nursing care administered
relative to the residents problems/needs.
- Administers medication and treatments accurately, observing
resident response, as evidenced by documentation in the medical
record and lack of negative outcomes.
- Maintains and coordinates communication among
resident/significant other, staff, and physician as evidenced
within the clinical medical record, client, and health care team
feedback in accordance with privacy regulations.
- Assists in assuring that effective communication exists with
resident/nursing staff and family.
- Gives punctual change of shift report consisting of pertinent
and relevant information for assigned residents.
- Effectively communicate residents changing needs and plan of
care among staff members
- Reports residents needs/problems and observations regarding
residents condition to physician and family
- Attends physician rounds on assigned residents and communicates
observations regarding residents' condition to physician and
family
- Reports resident abuse immediately to Administrator; takes
corrective action, including disciplinary action
- Maintains optimum nursing practice through participation in
internal and external training enrichment programs geared toward
geriatric residents and residents of various age
- Participates in staff development programs by attending
scheduled staff meetings and mandatory in-services
- Assisting with staff meetings and mandatory
in-services
- Obtaining information discussed and incorporate the new
information into practice
- Assists in the orientation/training of new nursing personnel.
Evaluates job performance of licensed practical nurses, medication
techs and nurse aides and makes recommendation for continued
employment or for termination
- Demonstrates sound judgments by taking appropriate actions
regarding questionable findings or concerns
- Investigates and follows through on unusual orders or requests
for service or information
- Follows proper reporting procedures for actual or potential
accidents and/or incidents so follow-ups and/or prevention can
occur
- Records/reports the need for service maintenance or repair of
equipment and remove any faulty equipment form service. Uses all
safety equipment provided
- Consistently works in a positive and cooperative manner and
assists other nursing personnel
- Provides emotional support to residents and families as
needed
- Recognizes verbally or physically aggressive resident behavior,
responds appropriately and educates other staff/family on safe
procedures
- Responds to resident call lights and intercom and mobility
alarms in an appropriate and timely manner
- Minimizes non-productive times with activities that will
prepare to meet the future needs of the facility (education,
organizing, housekeeping and assisting others.)
- Organizes job functions and work areas to effectively complete
varied assignments within established time frames
- Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make
decisions/choices without direct supervision
- Seeks out opportunities to help rather than waiting to be
asked
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all policies and
procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate books and
manuals
- Maintains confidentiality of resident information at all
times
- Complies with the facility's infection control policies and
procedures and the Exposure Control plan that reflects OSHA Blood
borne Pathogen Standards to ensure a safe working environment for
self and others
- Performs all other duties as assigned as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications for the -Director of Resident Services -include:
- Analytical ability to assist with complex resident care
situations, investigates and resolve problems, and evaluates
resident care for geriatric resident and residents of various
ages
- Interpersonal skills to frequently interact with residents,
family, nursing personnel and occasionally communicate with
representatives of outside agencies
- Comprehensive knowledge and skill in current nursing practice;
ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing
- Ability to organize, direct and control the activities of
licensed practical nurses, medication techs and nurse aides or
other personnel providing services to nursing units
- Ability to investigate issues with staff and take disciplinary
action, when needed
- Ability to work independently within the policy and procedures
of Amber Springs
- Ability to create reports, track falls and reports
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must be an LPN or RN
